"Growing in the five commitments"

Give... Like Jesus
In the last installment of our "like Jesus" series, we want to look at how Jesus gave. We don't really have an example
of Jesus giving money, but since Jesus was not a hypocrite, we can figure out by His teaching what he did with his own
money.
Before we look at His practice, we have to realize that Jesus was not without money. His ministry had a treasurer
(Judas) and Jesus made decisions about money like we all do. Here are some things we know about those decisions:
- Jesus tithed.
Jesus attended the Jewish synagogue and followed the customs there. One of those customs was tithing.
Giving a tenth of your money to your local church is the example to follow.
- Jesus Gave Sacrificially.
Jesus talks about the widow giving sacrificially and going beyond what's
expected many times. No doubt that His own practice was to give out of sacrifice, not extra money.
- Jesus Paid Taxes.
Jesus not only talked about taxes, we know He actually paid them (see Matthew 17:24-25). We all have practical
responsibilities we must take care of and we must follow Jesus' example and pay those. Romans 13:8 says
we should pay what we owe - bottom line.
- Jesus Had the Right Priorities about Money.
Jesus was very clear: earthly investments are temporary and heavenly investments are eternal.
So how do we give like Jesus? Rid yourself of materialism, avoid debt and take care of your responsibilities, and be
generous with God and others.
The great reformer Martin Luther said, "I have tried to keep things in my hands and lost them all, but what I have
given into God's hands I still possess."
Remember that as your make decisions today. Spend like Jesus. Give like Jesus.

Campus Missionary Checking In
Courtney2010: For the last month and a half, I have been leading a unit about reaching our campus for Christ’s cause at our FCA meetings. At first, many of the members couldn't see themselves sharing their story or reaching out. However, after a few more lessons, some prayer, and steps of faith, many of us have begun to step out as individuals and as a club to reach our campus. Our club has once again grown in numbers because of current members inviting the friends they have been discipling. It’s awesome to see God moving in the hallways of my school. Sometimes I simply stand in awe as I see a friend who had never previously been a Christian kneeling at his locker praying, or another leading a her campus club meeting. God is taking my school by storm, for lack of a better term, and I can't wait to see what he has in store for the rest of the year!
Check it out! Post your own club story, get advice, or ask a question from youth leaders and other club leaders from across the nation at http://youthalive.ag.org/campusclubs/
